Summer is for Swimming!

My sweet Grayson - he is so many amazing and wonderful things, but fearless he is not. He has never been too pumped about learning to swim, although it is something I desperately want to encourage since I'm not the strongest swimmer myself. We did lessons last summer, and for the most part he spent the class clinging to me and ignoring the instructor. I knew I wanted to try again this summer, but I was a little hesitant.

Luckily for me, SafeSplash swim school reached out to see if Grayson might be interested in a few complimentary lessons. It was exactly the nudge I needed to get him back into the swing of things, so we decided to go for it. And man, am I glad we did it!
This summer was a completely different experience than the one we had last year at our neighborhood pool. I think being another year older obviously helped, because he went into things much more willingly than last year. Also, this year he's old enough to do the class alone instead of the "mommy and me" type situation, and I think that is essential for a mama's boy like Grayson.

The first lesson he was a bit hesitant, but by the end of the thirty minute class he was all smiles. Didn't hurt that he got a sucker at the end ;) The instructors were patient and calm, and super encouraging - all things that help my boy feel comfortable in a new setting. There were only a couple other kids in the class, and when it wasn't his turn to "swim", he sat on the step with one of the instructors, playing with toys, blowing bubbles, and getting comfortable just being in the water.

By his last class this past weekend, I was blown away by how comfortable he seemed to be. This is a boy who last year had to be peeled off of me, and now he is hopping right into the water. I was shocked that they got him to practice floating on his back, and he climbed right up onto a huge floaty with three other kids and kicked his way across the pool. He even jumped in several times (a very timid jump, but still) into the instructors arms and "swam" back over to the side.
The best part about the entire experience is the fact that he isn't near as nervous when we take him swimming. We went to the neighborhood pool yesterday, and he was comfortable in his floaties, he swam back and forth between me and the husband several times, and he had fun jumping off of my legs into the water, letting it splash around his mouth and nose. I know this may not sound huge to anyone else, but for Grayson this is a pretty big deal!

We were totally happy with our experience with SafeSplash, and I fully intend on returning in the fall once our weekend schedule calms down a bit. I'm sure a lot of his progress has to do with maturity, but I also was super pleased with how the instructors were with him. I know I had a bad experience with swim lessons as a kid that resulted in a lifelong fear of water, so I'm always hesitant with this sort of thing. I'm happy to say they were nothing but kind and encouraging, and I couldn't have been more pleased with the experience!

Happy Mother's Day, All You Mommies ;)

I've been wanting to try something new around here, because Grayson is basically hilarious, and I really want to capture it on film to remember forever. So I dreamed up a little recurring post that I plan on doing called Conversations With Grayson. Of course, this was a few months ago and I'm just now getting around to it, but that's beside the point.

Since Mother's Day is this weekend, I decided to focus on Mommy for our first conversation. And I can say that I learned a couple interesting things. For one, Grayson is super shy in front of the camera. I'm thinking it's because we've never done it before, so I'm hoping he'll warm up to it and be a little more himself next time.

I also learned that apparently I say no A LOT. To be honest, he and I have had a bit of a rough week this past week, and he is in a phase of asking me for the same thing over and over and OVER, even after I've already said no. So yes, I have been saying no on a regular basis, and apparently he's made note of that.

So I hope you enjoy our first conversation! Please ignore my laugh, it's not my cutest quality. And Happy Mothers Day to all you mamas, grandmamas, mamas-to-be, and hopeful-to-be mamas out there!

What Grayson Wore - November/December

Alright, if I'm going to keep up these "What Grayson Wore" posts, I'm going to have to get up like five minutes earlier and attempt to take some decent photos before I drop him off at preschool. These are so terrible I'm almost embarrassed to post them. But I guess I gotta work with what I've got!

We didn't get much preschool in during November and December with being sick and holiday breaks, so I'm combining the two. Maybe I'll get all the way caught up during summer break, because I am sucking at staying on top of this! Anyhow, here's what Grayson wore last winter ;)

Shirt - Circo, found at Target
Shirt - Old Navy
Sweater - H&M
Pants - Old Navy
Shoes - Toms
Shirt - Hand-me-down from his cousin ;)
Shoes - Old Navy
This is what he wore for Santa photos & his Christmas program at school :)
Shirt - Cherokee, found at Target
Shoes - Old Navy
Sweater - Children's Place

Grayson Says...

*I found this post in my drafts from right before I had Gavin. Obviously I just never got around to posting it, but a couple of these were too cute to just never post. This also shows me how much more conversational he's become in just a couple of months!

"Mommy, why all dress up?" - Grayson
"Because I didn't want to wear my sweatpants to your school" - Mommy
"Oh, Cause den somebody say OOOOH, I like dose pants!!!" - Grayson

"The tun is up! Mommy, the tun is up! It's not too gark outside!" - every. single. morning.

"Mommy, why not moving? You want to lay der a wittle bit?" - trying to get me up and out of bed.

After I explained to him that my tummy wouldn't be big anymore once the baby comes.
"And den mommy hold Gayson?" - Grayson
"Well, sure." - Mommy
"Den Mommy hold Gayson A LOT!" - Grayson
Mommy didn't realize how much he's been wanting me to hold him - I still feel like I hold him all the time!

My Grayson

Since I will be 40 weeks pregnant tomorrow, things are really starting to sink in. Like, the fact that there will be a tiny infant living in our home in the next few days (fingers crossed, I am so very ready to be done with this last few weeks of pregnancy!). And also the fact that Grayson will no longer be my only baby, my only child, my only boy, my only everything. I know I will love and adore this baby boy just as much as my first, but man - it's really kind of freaking me out thinking about sharing the love.

Right now I spend so much time just cuddling with, kissing on, obsessing over Grayson. He and I have such a special bond. I spend more time with him than anyone else, and he really is like my best little friend. He's such a joy to be around (most of the time, ha!) and I so enjoy all of our one-on-one time together. I have heard so, so, so many mamas say that instead of splitting the love it's almost like your heart grows in size, and I fully expect that to be the case. I guess I'm more concerned with splitting the actual time than the love. Love I have an abundance of. Time, not as much.
I think this is why I've been so obsessed with Grayson the past few weeks. I mean, he really is hilarious and smart and full of joy, and he is endlessly entertaining. But he's been that way for awhile now. I think I'm just really soaking it all in, trying to truly see him for the amazing little man that he is before half my attention has to be devoted to a tiny baby. So he and I have been spending a lot of time cuddled up in our big comfy chair, him sitting as close to me as humanly possible, sometimes playing with my hair, sometimes just leaning on my arm. He watches Paw Patrol or Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and I play on the iPad, and we just snuggle up. Up until just a few weeks ago I was all about staying active, avoiding screen time as much as possible, and getting out and about whenever we could. But being this pregnant has forced me to slow down, and really, it has been so nice. Taking the time to simply sit with him and giggle about whatever random thing comes up or talk about his day at preschool has been some of my most favorite times with him lately.

So until this baby decides to make his appearance, this is how we will proceed. Excess amounts of cuddling. laughing, kissing, "I love you's", and probably since he's 2 1/2, several tantrums and meltdowns thrown in for good measure. I cannot wait to meet the little one growing inside me, but I will always, always treasure the time I've had, just me and my Grayson.

What Grayson Wore - September

So, one of the great joys of being a parent, at least for me, is picking out someone else's clothing. I used to try to do this for my husband, but he would switch things up or blatantly tell me no at times, so it wasn't near as fun. But with Grayson, at least for now, I can dress him pretty much however I want. Very rarely (knock on wood) does he refuse to wear something. It's awesome.

What's even more awesome, is now that he's going to preschool twice a week, I actually have a reason to dress him in something other than athletic shorts and t-shirts that he can wear to be comfy around the house. I am taking full advantage, and it's so fun. Lord help us all if I ever have a girl...I can only imagine how fun the bows and frills and leggings and little boots are! But luckily (for A's wallet at least), I'm a boy mama for now. But I have fun with it, and I think I've kind of created a bit of a signature Grayson style, if you will ;)

I started on the first day of preschool taking photos of him each morning before we leave the house, and I've kept it up each day so far. I typically text them to A and my mom, and that's the extent of it. But I figured if I'm going to be taking the pics, why not put them to good use. So, I'm thinking this shall be a new "regular" (haha, I know, who are we kidding) blog post around here.

These aren't exactly the highest quality photos, because they're taken on my iPhone, typically as I'm saying, "Hurry up baby, we're about to be late! Hurry! Can you say cheese? No? Come on, cheeeese! Ok, that'll work, let's go!!!". But they get the job done.

Grayson Says...

"Mommy, what's DAT noise?!?" - he says this all the time, for the quietest little noises. The air conditioner coming on, music, the phone ringing, a car driving by...basically anything he hears.

"Oooh, Gaygan burp!" or "Ooooh, Gaygan toot!" - he definitely feels the need to announce his bodily functions to us.

"Ooh, what's DAT smell?" This is said with a scrunched up nose and lots of sniffing.

"Mmm, Mommy, what is dat favor?" Favor = flavor. He asks me this after almost anything he tastes. He started doing it after we introduced dum dum suckers for potty training, and now he asks it about everything he eats.
"Scuz me Gaygan!!!" - This is said after burping. I love that he thinks he has to say his name. I'm assuming because I've said "Say excuse me Grayson!" many times :)

"No, Gaygan do dat, all by self!!!" - He is nothing if not independent, and he wants to do it allllll by himself.

"Make me happy!" - The first time he said this was when we were strolling through Target. He was eating popcorn and we were just chatting about nothing, whatever we happened to see and toddler talk. He ate a big handful of popcorn and then said "Make me happy!" I said, "The popcorn makes you happy? Good!" and he said "No!" Then he leaned forward and put his hand on my chest and said "Mommy make me happy".  And then I almost cried and I bought him a new toy because it was the sweetest thing I'd ever heard in my ENTIRE LIFE.

"Gaygan go poop get a guuuucker!" - We're potty training and he gets one m&m for peeing and a little dum dum sucker for pooping. He gets so excited every time he even thinks about pooping and he says this while practically dancing around.
"Est-eh-day" - I wish you could hear this one, it's my favorite word he says right now. It's his version of "yesterday", and it's freaking adorable. He's always saying "Gaygan watched dat car movie est-eh-day" or "Gaygan go to the beach and go swim est-eh-day!" Basically, anything that has happened in the past happened yesterday.

"Wanna go to Omahoma see Papaw and Addie!" Almost every day when I ask him what he wants to do that day, this is what he says.

"Oooh, dat kiger eyes! Look at dose kiger eyes!" This morning after we woke up we were laying in bed and he started talking about tiger eyes and pointing to these two round gold mirrors we have on our bedroom wall. He would say "kiger eyes go like dis" and then make a serious face and squinch his eyes up. I kept telling him they were mirrors and he refused to believe me.
"No. No. No." This is when he's trying to tell me something and I don't understand. Yesterday he kept telling the husband and I that he wanted to go to the zoo, but it sounded like a cross between shoe and too. We kept saying "You want your shoe?" "You wanna go too?" and he would look so serious and just shake his head and say "No. No." so calmly. He does it all the time now, and it's so funny how long it can go on without him getting frustrated.

I seriously need to start doing this every single night, because this kid cracks me up all day every day. He's talking SO much now, and carrying on conversations like it's nothing. So much of what he says is hilarious and I think I'll never forget, then I sit down to type it up and I can't remember! He's also become MUCH easier to get along with lately, and I think it's because he's so good at expressing himself and telling us exactly what he needs. So far, the "terrible twos" have been the easiest stage of his life! (fingers crossed, knock on wood, whatever else you do to NOT jinx yourself)

Grayson Says....

Grayson is talking like crazy these days, and he is seriously so funny. I was just talking to my mom about some of the funny things he's said just today, and we agreed that I need to be writing them down or I'll forget. Here are just a few of the cute little sayings he's stuck on lately.
"Mommy, not wooooorkiiiiing" - Anytime anything doesn't immediately do what he wants.

"Let's see here" - walking around looking at toys trying to choose one, shopping in the store, basically anytime he pauses and needs something to fill the silence.

"Appletoss, Applepeepee, Applepoopoo, Appleteetee, AppleANYTHING" - For forever now Appletoss (applesauce) has been his go to word, but he's been getting creative with it lately. This is his go to anytime he's just jabbering with nothing to say.

"NOW what?" - Kind of being replaced by "Let's see here..."

"No Wait!" - This was tonight as I was reading him a book before bed. He said this, put his finger on my lips, then started reading letters off the page.

"Like ALLLLLL dat" - Anytime I ask him to choose between something.

"Need cough aden!" - He's had a runny nose and a little cough the past few days, and he gets sooooo excited to take his medicine he does a little dance before he gets it. He tells me he needs his medicine at least 12 times a day.

"Need to go to the Goc-tor!" - After his two year check up he decided that he really likes his pediatrician (who is the greatest) so now he needs to go to the doctor alllll the time for every tiny little thing that happens.

"Go avay fly! Go avay!" or "Go avay bug!"....or "Go avay!" basically any other thing that crosses his path that he doesn't like.

"Come GIIIIT me!!!" - he says this anytime he sees a cop car on TV, so I'm wondering who told him that the cops were going to come get him.

"123GO!!!!" - Racing is his new favorite thing to do, even if he's "racing" himself.

"Ooh, dat's a WET biaper!" - whenever I take his diaper off he always feels the need to comment on it now. Apparently this is something I say a lot haha :)

"Mommy, warch! Mommy warch!" - He really needs me to watch every. single. thing. he. does.

"Warch big gucks!!" - He's OBSESSED with watching these little cartoon videos on Youtube that are basically just trucks and cars being put together piece by piece. Monster trucks, police cars, ambulances, sports cars, etc., etc. Cars are so his thing right now.

"Oooooh, BIIIIIIG guck!!!!" - In the car, anytime we pass any type of big vehicle.

"No go seep!" - anytime I do anything that reminds him in any way of our bedtime routine.

Another couple of mommy bragging things that I want to remember: He can identify most of the upper case letters of the alphabet by sight - we've been reading the Dr. Seuss ABC book every day at nap time and bedtime and he's got them all down other than J, which he calls jam, L, V, and Y. He can also count to 10, although getting him to do it on command isn't easy. You have to ask him to count his fingers to trick him into it. It also appears that he knows his numbers by sight, because we've asked him to point to specific ones and he's gotten it right for the most part. It's kind of tough with him because he doesn't like to let us know what he knows, so it's requiring some trickery on my part to figure out what he actually does know. I've heard that can be common with boys.

He repeats EVERYTHING we say, and puts his own little spin on most things and makes them hilarious. He can tell me everything that he wants, what he doesn't like, and so on. The minute he wakes up he starts with "Mommy, let's goooo. Go now! Waffles! Waffles AND Pancakes! Let's goooo!" and then he doesn't stop pretty much all day long. I've noticed that we are carrying on actual conversations most of the time, and it's so fun to see what he comes up with. He's pretending now and making up stories for what his toys are doing. He's like an actual human now, and it's so stinking cute to see him grow and learn.

We Have Big News!!!

If you follow me on Instagram, you're probably already well aware of this info, but come October of this year we will be a family of FOUR!
We are all so excited to grow our little family, and I absolutely can't wait to see Grayson as a big brother. I *think* he understands somewhat what's going on, but I know he won't truly get it until the baby makes his or her arrival. Speaking of which, we won't know whether we have a he or she for another month. For some reason my doctor insists on waiting until 20 weeks for the gender sonogram...the anticipation is killing me!

So far I'm feeling good, aside from being exhausted from chasing a toddler combined with growing a human, and the time is flying by. Before we know it we'll have TWO kids, which is blowing my mind. I think I'm ready, then I'm hit by the reality and have a minor panic attack, but then I'm fine again.

I'm hoping I can keep up with my pregnancy updates like I did with Grayson, although this time around things like that seem a bit more challenging ;) But I really, truly hope to be back soon with my first update!

Checking In

So it has officially been what, almost two months since I visited this little space? Life has been busy and full, so much so that I just haven't really found the time to check in. Grayson is like a totally new and hilarious person, talking in sentences and developing this crazy personality. He keeps me busy every waking hour, and I'm so tired by the time he goes to sleep that I just sit with the husband, mindlessly watching TV until I go to bed...usually like an hour after G does.

There have been several times that I've thought about coming here to touch base a bit, but to be honest, I know there aren't many people still hanging around. I keep thinking I'll get back into things, work on getting my followers back, etc., but MAN...that sounds like a lot of work. Right now, I just can't muster up the energy.

Aside from watching Grayson grow into a full blown toddler who will be TWO in just over two weeks, I've pretty much been working at my little "work from home" job about 12 hours a week, attempting to plan his birthday party, and trying to keep him well. He's been sick with a cold, then a tummy virus, then another cold with a nasty cough, for the last three weeks. And now I've got a fever, massive headache, and am super fatigued - which is how I've found the time to write this little blog post. Daddy is entertaining him and mommy is laying in bed. On top of all the sickness, hubs has been traveling about 50% of the time with his job, so to say mama is tired is an understatement.

I fully intend to do a post with sharing all of Grayson's hilarious little quirks and sayings and whatnot before too long, but I think I've been overly ambitious already today ;) I hope everyone is doing amazing, and I hope when I do find my way back here some of you will still be around. Until next time!

Passion

Because Grayson was born screaming his head off, and then he didn't really stop for like, two months, I've often felt like I had the "scary" or "bad" baby that people dread. But since I am all wrapped up in mama love and I feel as if he's a perfect angel, I couldn't ever really say that he was anything other than amazing. But I mean....anyone that spent any time with us in the early days knew he was a bit of a challenge. I decided rather than saying that he was colicky, which I think is what people say about "his type" usually, or that he was a difficult baby, I would say that he was passionate. I've been calling him passionate since he was just a few weeks old, and I don't know if it was one of those self-fulfilling prophecy kind of things or what, but good lordy lord, that child is nothing if not passionate.

It's funny, because the things that drive you crazy in others are often qualities that you yourself have, and I have to say...he comes by it honestly. I am passionate, no doubt about it, and it can be both a blessing and a curse. I think if your passion is embraced and understood, it can be a beautiful thing. It can lead to great success, it can draw people to you, it can give you that spark that other people wish they had. But at the same time, it can distract you if you let it, because it's easy to feel passionate about multiple things - speaking from experience here.
When I think of my passionate baby, who's turned into my passionate toddler, I wonder what he'll be like in a few years, in 10 years, as an adult. I hope he embraces that passion that he feels and makes something amazing happen with his life. I hope that I can teach him to use it for the gift that it is. I hope that we raise him to be passionate about the right things, to embrace whatever it is that really pulls at him, and to never give up if he really wants something.

Over the last 30 years I've learned a lot about living with the passionate streak that I have. I've learned that not everyone understands why I feel so strongly about things. I've learned that this passion also tends to lead to a quick temper, and that is a struggle I still deal with. I've learned that it's important to focus, to choose something to pursue, because it's so easy to feel passionate about every aspect of your life. It's my hope that I can pass these lessons on to Grayson, and any other future passionate babies that I may have, and that they won't have to learn it all the hard way.

What about you? What are you passionate about? Do you have one "great love" of a passion that you pursue endlessly, or are you more like me, and you tend to feel all the feels about every thing that goes on in your life?

10 Healthy Snack Ideas for Your Toddler

If your child has reached toddler age, you know how important snacks are. I'm pretty sure Grayson snacks about 75% of his waking hours. He's constantly running to the pantry and pulling things out. It is unreal how much that tiny human can eat.

So I've learned that I need to be prepared at all times with lots of healthy things for him to chomp on, so I don't resort to just handing out Annie's Bunnies (aka organic goldfish crackers) all day long. Although I won't lie, that kid eats a lot bunnies.

If you're just entering the toddler phase, or are simply running out of ideas, I thought I would share my favorite snack options that I usually have on hand. Not all of them are totally and completely healthy, although we do try!
1. Yogurt
We really love Stonyfield Organic yogurt, and that's pretty much all we buy. Grayson's a big fan of the pouches, but he likes to dump those out sometimes (of course). So occasionally I'll put some in a sippy cup with some milk mixed in, or sometimes I'll put a little bit in a bowl for him and let him dip his cheerios or waffles or fruit. Right now we only buy the Yo-Baby or Yo-Tot versions, because it's made with whole milk, which is recommended for littles.

2. Applesauce Pouches
This is a snack that wasn't a big hit at first, but I recently found some organic applesauce pouches at Target, and he really seems to dig them. Obviously we want him getting plenty of fruit, so this is a great way to get it done. I think part of the draw in this snack is the fact that he gets to feed it to himself, which is obviously huge with an independent little tot.

3. Cheese Slices and Turkey
Cheese slices are a big hit around our house. We've tried cheese sticks and cubes and every other variety available, but his favorite seems to be the American cheese slices (our faves are Horizon Organic). I typically give him one slice of cheese with a slice or two of turkey from the deli. I realize deli meat isn't the healthiest option, but I convince myself it's OK because he's getting lots of good protein this way.

4. Grape or Cherry Tomatoes and Cheese
Another common pairing with our cheese slices are grape or cherry tomatoes. So far he's not showing a preference of one over the other, so I go with whatever I happen to find first at the store. One big suggestion: be sure to cut these up. If your child is anything like mine they love to swallow things whole, and these little tomatoes are the perfect size and shape to choke on.

5. Cottage Cheese
I know this is a strange one, but in my household cottage cheese is about the best snack a kid could have. He absolutely loves it, and I'm not arguing. There are several organic options out there, and it's a great source of protein and calcium. I've never been a cottage cheese fan myself, but I tried it when I saw how much he loved it, and it's surprisingly pretty tasty. Definitely worth a shot!

6. Smoothies
I can't take much credit here. Smoothies are a Grayson and Nana thing. But I absolutely encourage it! Nana makes them with almond milk, frozen fruit, and kale, and Grayson laps this stuff up like it's the best thing he's ever had. The great thing about smoothies is that you can slip all kinds of stuff in there and they will never realize it. Such a great way to get in fruits and veggies for picky eaters, because I don't know too many kids who will turn down a smoothie.

7. Edamame
This idea came out of a bare fridge and a very hungry child. We'd let him try edamame before when we'd been out for sushi, and he seemed to like it, so I decided to give it a try. Of course I got the beans out of the shell, and he ate them faster than I could hand them over. Huge hit! Edamame is a great source of protein, iron, and calcium, so it's a winner in my book! Plus, mama likes to snack right along with him on this one.

8. Frozen Fruit
Grayson loves his veggies, but isn't a fan of fruit. He's a strange one, I tell ya. I'd tried basically every fruit, and he would just spit it right back out. Thankfully, we finally figured out the trick, and that is to make his fruit of the frozen variety. Blueberries and strawberries are his favorites, and he's even been known to snack on a frozen pineapple now and again. I usually give him a little cup with a variety of things, and he goes at it.

9. Organic Fruit Bars
I try to stay away from packaged stuff for snacks when we're at home (except for those dang bunnies that he can't get enough of), but when you're on the go, nothing's better than a little fruit or granola bar. Target (or anyplace, I'm sure) has tons of options, and there are usually a handful of organic choices, too. We go with Ella's Kitchen Nibbly Fingers most of the time, but we've tried several others and have never found one that he refuses to eat. I make sure the diaper bag is stocked with several of these at all times.

10. Anything and Dip
I don't know about you, but my toddler looooves to dip his food in things. I've figured out that he will eat just about anything if I give him something to dip it in. This is a great way to get him to eat fruits and veggies when he's being stubborn, and I've also given him little organic animal crackers, cheese sticks, and tortilla chips. For dip, I usually go with yogurt for sweet stuff, and guacamole, hummus, sour cream, cottage cheese, or really anything else on hand that could sub as a "dip" in his eyes. It's also a great way to keep him busy for 10 minutes so I have time to load the dishwasher!

So, now you tell me - What's your toddler's favorite snack? I'm always looking for new things to try, and luckily I have a child that will eat just about anything, so it's fun to experiment!

ICE!

A couple weekends ago the hubs, Grayson and I went to ICE! at the Gaylord Texan hotel in Grapevine. A few families in our neighborhood were going, so we decided to tag along. I must say, this is my favorite thing about our new neighborhood. Young families who actually get together and socialize on a regular basis. So much fun for all three of us!
We've never been to ICE! before, so we didn't really know what to expect. It was really incredible and fun and impressive, but most of all it was COLD. I believe they said it is 9 degrees inside. Yeah, that's right. That's cold anywhere, but in Texas that's downright FREEZING FREAKING COLD. We are not used to that type of climate, let me tell you.

Basically, you go through several rooms with tons and tons of ice sculptures, all of which are in the Frosty the Snowman theme that they went with this year. Apparently they switch it up from year to year. It was seriously super impressive....much cooler than I'm making it sound. The pictures don't do it justice. I'm amazed that people have the talent to create some of this stuff.
Grayson had a great time, although he was a little too cold. When we were getting somewhat close to the end he started saying "Go. Go. Go!". I said, "Do you want to go? Are you too cold?" and he nodded his head yes as hard as he could and pointed toward the exit. Needless to say mama got outta there as quick as she could! I'm pretty sure he'll enjoy it more in a couple of years when he can appreciate some of the characters and fun activities that they had going on, like the huge ice slides kids could go down.

By far the most fun he had was dancing and playing with our two little neighbor girls. They're both in kindergarten, and they just lavished him with attention. He LOVED every second of it. I could tell he felt so big and cool playing with the big girls, and he wanted to hold their hands and walk by them the entire time. Things like this put a slight fear in my heart for what I'm looking at in the future.
All four families went to have dinner afterward at a Mexican restaurant inside the Gaylord. If you've never been there, or anywhere similar like Opryland in Nashville, it is huge. Like, insanely huge with restaurants and shops and a billion guest rooms and a river running through it...it's like it's own city. And it is gorgeous during the holidays. Well worth a trip just to see what it's all about.

If you haven't experienced ICE!, I would say it's worth checking out. It's pricey from what I recall, although we had a promo code for half off which was nice. But it's kind of one of those things that you need to see. I doubt we will go back in the next couple of years, because G just wasn't quite old enough to truly appreciate it. But once he is, we will definitely be back.

Now that we've got that marked off the list, we've got about a month left in the holiday season...and probably about 37 "holiday" things I want to do and places I want to visit and activities I want to attend. Fingers crossed I can get at least like three of them in...
Meeting "Olaf" was another huge plus for G. I'm sure Frosty was horribly offended that Grayson kept saying "Owaf! Owaf!". He cried when we had to leave him behind.

It's Already Been a Real Monday.

You know when you wake up and first thing it seems like you've already started off your day all wrong. That's kind of how this day has been. Already. And it's not even 7:30.

Grayson got up extra early this morning, and could not be convinced to go back to sleep for anything. So fine, fine, I'm up. I can deal with an early morning every now and then. He had soaked through his diaper, so I got up, changed him, and changed his clothes. I'll deal with the sheets later. We come into the kitchen, and he starts asking for water. Before I can get his cup out of the cabinet and water poured into it, he's nearly hysterical. "Wawa. Wawa. WAWA. WAWA! WAWA! WAWAAAA!!!". I mean seriously. It maybe took a total of 45 seconds.

Then, he decides he wants oatmeal, which literally takes like three minutes of preparation. Boil the water, stir it in, wait one minute, done. But apparently he is absolutely famished, and the waiting results in another near meltdown. We're talking laying on the kitchen floor, crying, kicking his legs. I ignore it, and he eventually stops. I sit him in his chair and give him some cheerios to pacify him, and he (begrudgingly) accepts.

I start feeding him the oatmeal a few minutes later, and everything is fine for approximately 30 seconds. He decides he would like to feed himself, thankyouverymuch, and rips the spoon out of my hand. I take it back, and this results in a full-on panic attack/major meltdown. Swinging his arms across his tray, cheerios flying across the room, kicking, face turning red, tears rolling down his cheeks, and finally, coughing out his mouthful of oatmeal. I've learned the best approach is to either softly talk to him and explain the situation and why he needs to calm down, or to ignore it for the moment. Since I'm already highly annoyed with this day, I ignore.

I clean up, and feed him two more bites. He looks a bit ashamed of himself, which I'm honestly somewhat happy about. One more bite, and he grabs the spoon again. At this point I give in. I'd rather clean up a huge mess than deal with it.

He finishes the oatmeal, and starts asking for "Mo. Mo. Mo. MOOOHHHHH!!!!!". I explain that we're out, he ate it all. Tears. Kicking. Grunting. Yelling. I offer yogurt. He shakes his head no. I take his bowl away. He kicks and screams for a minute, until I get the yogurt put on his tray.

He eats about five bites of yogurt, then says "Done!". Smiling, happy, cheerful little Grayson sitting in front of me, as if nothing ever happened. I get him down, clean him up, and it's over. Until he notices the oatmeal on his pants. Slightly panicked tears.
If this breakfast catastrophe is any indication, it should be a truly fabulous day. Life with a toddler is always exciting. You never really know what you're going to be dealing with from one moment to the next. It's what I imagine it would be like to live with a slightly manic drunk person. Lots of falling, crying, fits of rage, and moments of pure bliss and hilarity. As I'm finishing this up, he's begging for his "papi" (aka pacifier), which he's only allowed to have at nap time and bedtime. Since I told him no, he threw himself on the ground with a scream, stood back up, started banging on the trash can, and is now wandering around, moaning "Eeeeeeh, paaaapiiiii. Ooooooh, paaaaapiiiii. Paaaaaapiiiiiiii."

Wish me luck.

Baby Photo Shoot

So, I mentioned awhile ago that the hubs bought me a fancy camera for Mother's Day. Turns out, despite the photography class I took in college, I have no idea how to use it. It completely intimidates me. I get it out, take a few pics, and usually end up defaulting to iPhone pics for the rest of the day/event/holiday/whatever reason I'm taking pictures. I have managed to get some really good ones, but also some pretty terrible ones. I mean, I guess I should take some kind of class or something? And maybe actually pay attention this time? There's no way I'm going to be able to figure this out on my own.

Anyway, every once in awhile I get all inspired and I'm like, "I'm gonna get my camera out and take some really great photos and then I'll post them on the blog and I'll be like a real, live, official blogger!". And then I take like three and I'm all "Uhhh...I don't really know what else to do here, so...yeah.". So on one of these days that I was feeling oh-so-inspired, Grayson happened to look really cute. So we had an impromptu photo shoot of sorts.

Nothing else was going on that day. I think we were about to go out to dinner or something. So there's no "story" to blog. Nothing to tell. Just a few little photos of an adorable child. I hope that works for you.

Oh, and here's the even better part. Not only do I take mediocre photos, but I'm too lazy to edit them in any way. So you're getting the real, raw deal here, people. That's good stuff. Anway...Happy Friday? Haven't thrown that out there in awhile. Hope you have a positively fabulous weekend.
